What the audit found
Read-only code audits of twelve repos, with file and line evidence, and screenshots of nineteen live pages, October 24, 2026. Each number counts distinct values in use for the same job.
Visual languages, plus a book system: Institutional (v1, aroughidea.com, Agent Studio), Docs (the workshops, the toolkit, the newest explorables), Dashboard (AI Research), Exhibit dark (the Colloquy). TJ's books are a typographic system of their own.
Marks. A Rough Idea's square A, Agent Studio's rounded square, AI Research's node network, the Colloquy's 2018 icon, Speculative Journalism's time machine. Four apps never show A Rough Idea's.
Token vocabularies: v1's --ds-*, the explorables' --bg/--ink, VitePress's --vp-c-*, Agent Studio's, the Colloquy's, and none at all in AI Research, whose values are typed inline.
Error reds across the audited apps, shown here as found.
Typefaces and stacks: Inter (loaded three ways, or named and never loaded), Arial, Segoe UI, plain sans-serif, Georgia, Tailwind's serif and mono, and Archivo with IBM Plex in TJ's books.
Ways to remember light or dark, under six storage keys. Most pages have only one theme.
Icon sources, none shared: AI Research's nine, the Colloquy's glyphs, a 30-icon draft for the portfolio, and the Lucide library. The explorables use text glyphs.
App loading v1: only aroughidea.com links the deployed CSS. v1 was never published as a package.
